Baixada da Marela carnival in Maceda, Spain by Hugo Amaral / SOPA Images
After visiting the neighboring villages during the day, the Felos transform and take on demonic figures with horns and animal skins. At dusk, they take a wooden cow on a parade through the streets of Maceda (in Galicia, northern Spain) with fire, bass drums at a frenetic pace, industrial doses of flour fired in all directions and abundant enjoyment. They call it the “Baixada da Marela”.
