In 2022, the African Court on Human and People's Rights sitting in Arusha Tanzania, mandated the Government of Kenya to pay $1.3 million in reparations to the Ogiek People for injustices and discrimination they endured. In the landmark judgment, the court also directed the Kenyan government to officially recognize the Ogiek as indigenous people of Kenya.
