Although the likelihood of a volcanic eruption has been reduced, it is still possible.
The country's police and emergency services, in coordination with the government, are allowing residents of Grindavik to enter the area to finish collecting their belongings before houses and businesses are sealed off. It could be months before residents return to their homes, if this finally happens.
