Tea Plucking is a specialized skill. Two leaves and a bud need to be plucked in order to get the best taste and profitability. The calculation of daily wage is 170tk (1.60$) for plucking at least 22-23 kg leaves per day for a worker. The area of Sylhet has over 150 gardens including three of the largest tea gardens in the world both in area and production. Nearly 300,000 workers are employed on the tea estates of which over 75% are women. Working conditions and wages are considered to be very poor.
