Extremists march in Manila to mark the 51st anniversary of declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. The Martial Law marked as tumultuous phase in Philippine history. Former President Marcos placed the entire Philippines under Martial Law that lasted from September 21, 1972 to January 17, 1981. During that time, Marcos cracked down on dissent and imprisoned thousands of his political critics. The dictator's family, with the power of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., a current Philippine president still denies the allegations of human rights violations of their kin, which during the Marcos regime, 70,000 people were arrested, 35,000 were tortured; 3,257 were killed and also $5 billion to $10 billion were amassed by the late dictator. The one-man rule ended in 1986 with a popular uprising.
