In 2022, The Ogiek Community, an indigenous minority forest-dwelling community won a groundbreaking legal battle against the government of Kenya at The African Court of Human and Peoples Rights sitting in Arusha, Tanzania. The court recognized the injustices and discrimination suffered by the Ogiek, ruled in their favor and mandated reparations both material and moral damages.
