According to the AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) 2022 has been the warmest year in Spain since records have been made (1961) and is, at the same time, the third driest: up to September, has been recorded an average rainfall of 473 liters per square meter, which is 26% less than the normal value (635 liters per square meter). The water reservoirs in Cataluña are now around 30% of water capacity and this situation is seriously affecting the environment, the biodiversity, and the economy.
