Russian POWs held in Ukrainian colony by Mykhaylo Palinchak / SOPA Images
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has been going on for more than 1 year. However, the number of prisoners from both sides is still not reliably known. Experts believe we are talking about thousands of prisoners of war. The Ukrainian military has repeatedly spoken about torture, beatings and violence in Russian captivity - no official reaction of the Russian authorities to this is known. Ukraine, unlike Russia, has granted the UN access to the POWs and also launched an investigation into the ill-treatment of the detected cases. Most Russian POWs are held in Ukraine in special camps visited by representatives of international human rights organisations.
