Turkey and Syria have experienced the most severe earthquakes to hit the region in almost a century. After a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in southeast Turkey, a second 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in northern Syria. It is reported that more than 42.000 people lost their lives due to the earthquakes, and the death toll continues to rise.
