Climate effect in Kuakata, Bangladesh by Piyas Biswas / SOPA Images
KUAKATA, locally known as Sagar Kannya (daughter of the sea) is located in the southwest of Bangladesh. The water level has risen due to the impact of climate change and sedimentation on the sea-bed. As such tidal surges often flood the beach. The recent Cyclone Amphan also washed away hundreds of trees. This 30 km long and 03 km wide beach has a typical natural setting and sandy as gently sloping into the Bay of Bengal. The embankment, planted with various species of trees and garden, eco-park, and houses, are on the verge of extinction as erosion has taken a serious turn due to the monsoon.
