Until the end of December 2020, the cumulative number of refugees in Indonesia was recorded at 13,745 people from 50 countries. More than half of the population comes from Afghanistan. As a country that has not signed the 1951 Convention, Indonesia is not responsible for the lives of asylum seekers. The authority to carry out the refugee protection mandate rests with UNHCR.
