Life by the shores of Lake Victoria in Kisumu, Kenya by Donwilson Odhiamb / SOPA Images
Life on the lakeside seems uneasy to residents who strive to survive through everyday life and the daily occurring circumstances due to high birth rates and lack of jobs around the regions. In Ralayo Asembo, Kisumu City, most locals are left with no other sources and access to clean water, most local villagers around here depend on the lake for drinking, cooking, washing, and most importantly for livestock and agricultural purposes. For many years, the highly polluted lake has become a breeding ground for diseases leaving the lives of most residents at risk of outbreaks of waterborne diseases like Cholera, Typhoid, diarrhea, and many other water bone diseases leading to a high number of deaths alongside the lake regions.
