Lunik IX ghetto in Košice, Slovakia - 13 May 2018 by Julia Schoenstaedt / SOPA Images
Lunik IX is the biggest Roma settlement in Slovakia. It is located on the outskirts of the town Kosice, in the far East. It is often called Roma Ghetto. It lies segregated from the rest of the city and gives the people living there no real point of contact with the rest of society. Unemployment here lies between 80-95%. Many people live in atrocious poverty. The Roma people who are often called ‘Gypsies’ have been excluded from societies wherever they went throughout history.
