The sound of the cowbells is heard through the Bidasoa Valley, Ituren a small village located in the Malerreka Region, presages the welcome of the long awaited carnivals for all the inhabitants of the region. The Joaldunaks walk the streets dressed in sandals, petticoats on tiptoe, sheepskins on waist and shoulders, colorful neck scarves, ttuntturroa (tapered hats) and a horse-hair swab on their right hand, they ring their cowbells making their sound rumble throughout the valley, thus driving away evil spirits.
