Since the Vlaams Belang (VB) a right-wing populist, Flemish nationalist political party achieved the second-highest vote in Flanders in the May regional elections, and also was excluded from the negotiations still taking place to form a new regional government. The extremist group 'Bloed, Bodem, Eer en Trouw' (BBET, Blood, Soil, Honour, and Loyalty) organized a protest against the exclusion of Vlaams Belang from talks on the new Flemish government. Around thirty supporters trying to gather at the Place d'Espagne in the center of Brussels, but they were stopped by the riot police and were put under arrest.
