The Salineras de Maras is located along the slopes of Qaqawiñay Mountain, at an elevation of 3,380 m in the Urumbamba Valley, near the town of Maras. It is made up of more than 3 thousand natural salt wells. Each of the wells has a dimension of 5 square meters. The 3,000 pools are fed by an underground hypersaline spring that originated around 110 million years ago during the formation of the Andes Mountains. The most of villagers of Maras work here.
