People across the country attended the eight-day long festival which is celebrated to honor Indra, the king of gods and god of rains. During the festival the living goddess is taken around the city in the chariot in a religious procession through parts of the capital by Nepalese Hindus and Buddhists. The festival also marks the end of the monsoon.
