In August 2014, the Islamic State captured Sinjar, the main city of the Yazidi population in Iraq. Now, with the city in ruins, United Nations of Iraq and UN-Habitat have began an urban recovery program largely financed by the government of Germany. This program employs the people of the region to reconstruct the most damaged households.
