Three days of condolences were established and a memorial program was organized in the city of Diyarbakir in Turkey for 49 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) guerrillas who died in armed clashes with the Turkish army on different dates in the past years and whose identities have just been announced. Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the armed Kurdish PKK party who has been in prison in Turkey for 26 years, had decided two years ago to disarm his party and start peace talks with the state of Turkey.
