On the evening of Black Friday, the 29th of November, climate activists of the Extinction Rebellion group occupy the window display areas of the Maszalkowska Street branch of the high-street fashion retailer Zara. Dressed in black, the protestors drape banners bearing protest slogans over the display mannequins and glue themselves to the window. The group states that Black Friday is the great holiday of "unbridled consumerism" and represents everything they feel is wrong with capitalism: overproduction of waste, huge CO2 emissions, exploitation of workers and exploitation of natural resources. With their direct action, the group wishes to show the clothing companies that they will not pay them for exploitation and the destruction of the planet. The demonstration aims to make the retailer's customers aware of the true cost of fast fashion.
