On September 11, 2001, four commercial US airplanes were hijacked by Al-Qaeda, an Islamist extremist terrorist group, and were weaponized against the United States. Killing nearly 3000 people and injuring 6000 more it was the worst attack to happen on United States soil. Two of the planes were flown into new York’s World Trade Center, destroying the Twin Towers and killing 2,977 people.
