Every year, on 16 July, the Malaga city celebrates a religious feast in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron of sailors and fishermans. The statue of the Virgin, carried by a group of believers in traditional costume along the streets, is placed on a boat from the beach, which later on sails down the Malaga coast.
